Magnetism
Example of iron sample under microscope A magnet is an object that can attract other objects containing iron, cobalt, or nickel.
Geographic north pole = Magnetic south pole Geographic south pole = Magnetic north pole Compass red tip is a north pole Magnetic field lines are always drawn north towards south Opposite poles attract, like poles repel
Bar magnets See page 166, 5.33
Electromagnetism Describes all the phenomena resulting from the interaction between dynamic electricity and magnetism Used by many items such as fans, computers, speakers, motor, etc.
Magnetic field of a live wire Magnetic field lines form circles around a live wire Right hand rule: Point thumb in the conventional current direction (towards negative) and your other fingers will be point in the direction of the magnetic field lines
Remember that the red tip is seeking south
