What’s New?  New EDS board allowing 1 million detects/second with latest Ultradry (does not apply to SiLi or older Ultradry detectors).  EDS board uses a Core Card instead of DSP’s. This technology is used in Molecular products.  Substantial changes have been made to the detector calibration procedure. It will now take less than 10 minutes to run a full DPP calibration.  The manual calibration is removed from the NS7 user interface.  The discriminator adjustment for Ultradry low energy peak position is no longer required.  EDS board can be used with SiLi or Ultradry with no changes.  SBC has been changed to a Ready Board 800(faster).  DBC2 board incorporates changes to improve noise in the image. All jumpers and adjustments remain identical to NS6 DBC. No changes to DBC calibration. Jumpers now allow shields to be connected to AGND.

Detector Calibration-DPPCal Baseline 2.Input RC 3.Discriminator

Detector Calibration (cont.)  There are 4 steps for detector calibration(refer to the previous slide): 1.The baseline noise and level is determined. 2.The decay time of the detector/DPP is determined for each HTC (hardware time constant). 3.The discriminator setting is calculated for each HTC. 4.Fine calibration is performed in the NS7 user interface the same as NS6. A new DPPCal2 program is now in the Service directory, which is used to perform the first 3 steps of calibration. DPPCal2 ONLY works with NS7. DPPCal remains for NS6.

DPPCal2 The EDS2 Auto Cal tab brings up the calibration window. All other tabs act the same as NS6. The buttons guide the installer through the calibration process from top to bottom. Calibrate baseline must be performed before Calibrate Input RC. Calibrate Discriminator can be done at any time after initial calibration.

DBC2 Board Changes Jumpers have been added to enable grounding of the shields of X, Y and Enable. EXTRLY has been added to enable an external device to switch the NS7 to external.

Detector/Cable Changes  Strain relief changed from latches to screw/jack post  Every NS7 will come with a set of spring latches for old detectors.  The connection between the shell and shield gets removed.  Every new detector will come with connector hardware for latches. The hardware is to installed on the NSS end of the preamp cable.

Other Changes  Program Files\Thermo Electron\NSS goes away and is replaced by Program Files\Thermo Scientific\NSS.  NSS Version 2.1 detects the type of front end is attached to the PC and runs the appropriate GUI “on the fly”. If no front end is connected the NS6 GUI is used. There is no difference in functionality. DPPCal 2 can only be used with NS7.
