Elements of Art! The building blocks of all art works
Element of Art: Line Any extension of a point made with a marking tool
Vertical: up and down. Create the feeling of “stability”
Horizontal Line: side to side. Creates a feeling of “calm”
Parallel Lines Two or more straight lines on the same plane that do not intersect
Diagonal: corner to corner. Creates the feeling of “instability”
Zig Zag: pointed and jagged. Creates the feeling of “excitement”
Scribble: messy and all over. Creates the feeling of “confusion”
Contour: The outside edge of an object or shape
Implied: imaginary line that our eye automatically connects
Element of Art: Texture: The way an object’s surface feels to the touch
Stippling: Surface texture created with dots
Hatching: Surface texture created with many parallel lines
Crosshatch: Surface texture created with many intersecting lines
Element of Art: Value How dark or light something is
Highlight: The brightest or lightest part of an object
Light source: The place where light seems to be shining from and onto objects in a picture
