First Year Bird & Bat Monitoring Operational Phase: Lessons learned Preliminary results from 2 operational Wind Farm monitoring programmes: Bat & Bird Monitoring Northern Cape Bat Monitoring Western Cape Wind Projects with a strong social driver and local community development – Both using local bird/bat carcasses searchers – 12 persons (Northern Cape) & 4 persons (Western Cape) from local community capacitated to conduct the fatality searches Audited regularly by Bioinsight – Model working successfully Field observers have excellent working conditions (4x4 vehicle; Quad Bikes; GPS; Cameras; etc.)

First Year Bird & Bat Monitoring Operational Phase: Lessons learned This model allow to conduct weekly searches to all 41 WTG Northern Cape – 8 bird and 11 bat fatalities to date (since December 2014) 1 bird fatality related with associated infrastructures (Power Line) Western Cape – 5 bat fatalities to date (since July 2015)
