Organic Compounds 1) A compound MUST have CARBON (C) to make it ORGANIC. If there is CARBON (C), you must also have HYDROGEN (H).

Proteins (examples: hair, muscles, blood, organs and fingernails) 1) Amino-Acid -Proteins break down into amino acids -There are 20 different amino acids -we get our nutrients from food we eat like fish, dairy products, beans and meat.
Proteins Continue… 2) Enzymes (in your mouth-saliva and stomach-Pepsin) -purpose of enzymes: help chemical reactions in cells happen faster -helps digest food by breaking down large food molecules into smaller molecules so they can get into a cell. -Enzymes break down proteins, carbohydrates, and lipids.
Carbohydrates 1) Carbohydrates (starch) are broken down into simple sugars such as: -Glucose -Fructose -Lactose
Lipids 1) lipids are: Fats and Oils -Help store energy
