Click your mouse for next slide Flash – Fades and Alphas One useful thing you can so is to do a fade in of a picture or an image This is done by controlling what is called the alpha setting of a picture When combined with some movement you can make an interesting effect for the opening page of a site To do this. First you need to start a new file and import a picture so go to the File menu and choose Import

Click your mouse for next slide Flash - Fades and Alphas After you have imported your picture, we have to prepare it. Let’s make it bigger then the stage area and fade in to a smaller size. To do this we right click our picture and choose scale

Click your mouse for next slide Flash - Fades and Alphas Then grab one of the handles of the picture and drag it until it is larger than the stage area. Now we are going to make it so that it fades in To do this we need to tell Flash to convert this picture to be in a symbol format so we can work with it Go to the Insert menu and choose the Convert to Symbol choice

Click your mouse for next slide Flash - Fades and Alphas Then you get this dialogue box Choose the final choice Graphic (because that ‘s what this picture is Then give it a name and say OK

Click your mouse for next slide Flash - Fades and Alphas Now we can control the fade in with what is called the Alpha factor Locate the last panel on the right and click on the Effect tab Drop the list down and choose Aloha

Click your mouse for next slide Flash - Fades and Alphas Drop the Slider down so that the Alpha factor is 0% Notice how the picture fades out

Click your mouse for next slide Flash - Fades and Alphas Now go to frame 20 or whatever one you wish and right click Choose the Insert Keyframe option

Click your mouse for next slide Flash - Fades and Alphas Now go to the last panel on the right and the Effects tab and the Alpha slider only this time we will slide the slider back up to 100% Notice how the picture fades back in

Click your mouse for next slide Flash - Fades and Alphas Now lets reduce the size of the picture Right click inside the picture and choose Scale Then grab one of the handles and drag it to make the picture a smaller size

Click your mouse for next slide Flash - Fades and Alphas One last thing remains, go back to the first frame and right click it Choose Create Motion Tween You should notice the long arrow appear in the timeline Try out your fade by pressing Enter Save your work by going to the File menu and choosing Save As

Click your mouse for next slide Super Giant Big Fun Assignment Get a G-RATED picture off the net Create a Flash movie which makes it fade OUT not in Make the picture increase in size as it Fades OUT Save your work as an fla file called FADE.FLA Proudly display your work to FST so he can TICK YOU OFF.
