S ENATORS AND R EPRESENTATIVES HAVE THE CONSTITUTIONAL AUTHORITY TO SUPERVISE AND CONTROL BUDGET IMPLEMENTATION THROUGHOUT THE YEAR, VERIFYING THE FULFILLMENT WITH THE APPROVED B UDGET.

T HE B UDGET OFFICE It is a nonpartisan body, technically qualified and objective to serve as technical support to committees and the representatives, in the exercise of its audit work, objectively, timely, transparent.

M ISSION OF THE BUDGET OFFICE 1. Provide support to the committees and representatives through the ongoing analysis of financial impacts, economic and social laws, resolutions and policies coming from the executive. 2. Monitor the main macroeconomic and monetary variables. 3. Supervise the fiscal situation and the evolution of public debt. 4. Analyze and evaluate the implementation of public spending.

M AIN SOURCE OF INFORMATION SIGEF ( Financial Information System of the Government) Central Bank / Ministry of Economy (forecasting of macro variables) / Ministry of Finance (estimates revenues and expenditures)

SIGEF It is a software tool designed to support programming, implementation and evaluation of the budget, public debt management, treasury and accounting transactions by public institutions. It’s not public, you need permission from the Ministry of Finance, and sign a confidentiality agreement.

Objectives of SIGEF Produce timely and consistent information Improve management and distribution of public resources. Manage public resources transparently. Generate consistency between, revenue decisions, financing, expenditures, investment and macroeconomic policies. Increase the efficiency of internal and external control.
