Hands-on Time with the Makey Makey

Designing a Game Controller  We are going to get friendly in here. You will need to work with a shoulder partner who has a laptop.  I have a few chromebooks available for partners that do not have a laptop available.  Please take note of where you get things from so that you can put them away when time is coming to a close.

Designing a Game Controller  Subject Connections:  English and Reading  It requires students to research the history and development of game controllers.  Coding Basics  A great addition to this lesson is to have students code their own game in Scratch. It is not necessary, but is a fantastic add-on.  Design Thinking  Students can revamp their design based on user input. This is a critical thinking and problem solving piece.

Connecting the Makey Makey tpM-FtE

 We don’t have time to research Game Controllers today. So here’s a quick history lesson.

Design a Remote Controller  Tips  Don’t make one like you saw in the video  Use the materials around you  Be creative  Be original  Design it to go with a specific game

If Time Permits  You can design a very simple game in Scratch and use the controller to play it. Scratch is very simple to use.  You can find a game online and play the game using your game controller. My personal favorite is tetris.

Last Activity In a group of 2 or more people, brainstorm other ideas of how the Makey Makey can be used.

Like what you saw? Have a question?
