Framing the Issue: MI, Vets, & Education 635,000 veterans in MI, the 11 th highest in the U.S., in 2012 –At that time, MI ranked LAST for use of VA educational benefits In , 13,526 MI students utilized G.I. Bill benefits –85% of these students enrolled in a MI public institution of higher education - both colleges and universities 12,000 new veterans are projected to end their military service and return to MI by 2018 with another 7,000 projected to follow by 2024
