Basic Information:  ANDREAS GURSKY  Born 1955-still living  Born in Leipzig  His photography surrounds colorful, bold, large-format depictions of contemporary life.  Largely influenced by his years at Folkwang and took away from Photojournalism the technique of shooting straight-shot pictures. He studied under professional photographers at the State Art Academy and was influenced by them as well.  His work captures scenes that are immediately recognizable urban spaces, ranging from department stores and hotels to scenes in Germany and Chicago.  His most famous pieces are the 99 cent and Paris, Montparnasse series.  He didn’t really impact society

Personal Reflection:  I chose Andreas Gursky to look at because of his technique in shooting vibrant, colorful and contemporary photos. His photos are simple and easily recognizable. He has a talent for finding different angles and viewpoints to take his photos. Gursky has numerous photos take straight on and numerous photos taken from a higher point. His photos were appealing to my eye with the large landscape and architecture based photos.
