Parliamentary Democracy There are 4 political parties in the parliament after the election held on June 7th, 2015 Democratic Institutions There are two kinds of democratic institutions in Turkey. Turkey is a democracy with a tradition going back to 1945, when the a presidential regime set up by the founder of the modern Turkish state, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk gave place to a multi-party political system. A traditional ally of the US, Turkey has one of the healthiest democratic systems in the Muslim world. The Republic of Turkey is a parliamentary democracy where political parties compete at elections every four years to form the government. The president is elected directly by the voters but his position is largely ceremonial, with real power concentrated in the hands of the prime minister and his cabinet. Democratic instutitions within the formation of the state and the democratic institutions run by public bodies both of which carry out their missions in collaboration protecting human rights and the well- being of general public and the specific groups they stand for.
