C OMPONENTS OF G OOD W RITING : SEXI STYLE – T HE I NTRODUCTION SEXI is a comprehensive writing method that allows you to completely answer essay questions. As with all good writing, your essay paragraphs should start with a TOPIC sentence and end with a CONCLUDING sentence. Your TOPIC sentence is the MAIN IDEA of your essay and answers the question being asked of you. Think of your essay as a sandwich where the Topic Sentence and the Concluding Sentence are the bun and the SEXI components are the meat, cheese, and toppings. TOPIC SENTENCE S.E. X. As in a good essay, a research paper paragraph will have more than one SEXI unit in each paragraph related to a topic sentence and summarized by the concluding sentence.

C OMPONENTS OF G OOD W RITING : SEXI STYLE – T HE I NTRODUCTION What does SEXI stand for: State a reason to support your topic sentence: This is your voice, your opinion, what you are trying to say. Most writing is your opinion. Formal writing is your opinion or idea supported by research, data, and text; just DO NOT use the words “I,” “you,” “me,” or “we.” For an essay a question, state your reason/subject. (1-2 sentences)

How do you justify this idea and/or opinion? Again your voice without the use of “I,” “you,” “me,” or “we.” Explanation of your reason statement - Explain why you personally feel this way. (Personal voice) (1-3 sentences)

This comes directly from your source. Paraphrased information that is original to a source, and all direct quotes, should be referenced in proper MLA internal citation format.

How does the quote or specific example relate and support your answer? You answer all of these questions when you interpret your example. A paragraph should NEVER end with a quote.
