虚拟语气是一种特殊的动词形式， 用来表示说话人所说的话不是一个事 实，而只是一种愿望、假设、怀疑、 猜测、空想等。现在对虚拟语气的结 构及用法作简要叙述。 The Subjunctive Mood

1. 在条件状语从句和结果状语从句中, 表示与事实相反的条件和结果 (1) If I were you, I would go at once. 假如我是你的话，我会马上走． （与现在事实相反，事实上我不 可能是你）

(3) If it were sunny tomorrow, I would come to see you. 明天要是天气好的话, 我来看你. （与将来事实可能相反） (2) If you had come a few minutes earlier, you would have met him. 要是你早来几分钟的话，你就能 见到他了. ( 与过去事实相反 )

2. 宾语从句 I wish Mum hadn’t gone. 我真希望妈妈没走。 I suggest that you should improve your English. 我建议你该提高自己的英语水平。

动词 wish, suggest, demand, order, insist 等后面所接的宾语从句，多使 用虚拟语气，除 wish 外，其他几个动 词用 should 加动词原形构成。 Should 可省。

3. 让步状语从句 as if 或 as though 引导的表语从句和 状语从句表示与现在事实相反, 从句 的谓语用过去式 ; 表示与过去事实相 反, 用 had + 过去分词 ; 表示与将来事 实可能相反, 用 would + 动词原形。

She looks as if she were sick. 她看起来像病了似的。 ( 其实没病 ) He looks as if nothing had happened to him. 他看上去好像什么事都没发生似的。 ( 事实是出问题了 )

2. It is cold and wet outside. We don’t let the children play in the garden. If it weren’t cold and wet outside, we would have let the children play in the garden. 3. You’re wasting so much time playing computer games. You won’t pass the test.

If I were you, I wouldn’t waste so much time playing computer games. 4. He has to work hard all day long, so he doesn’t have time to do the shopping. If he didn’t have to work hard all day long, he would have time to do the shopping.
