Bridge Across the Room Challenge

Part One: Make a Small Model: Can you build a bridge using only newspaper that will carry a car across the length of your table? ( your bridge must be at least 5cm high at its highest point- can be taller) You will be given two pieces of paper and one piece of tape but you may combine supplies with another group if you wish. Part 1

PLAN AHEAD Discuss your design plan for 5 min before you begin Then you will have 20 min to build your bridge Part 1

Collaborate Look at all of the designs around the room. Make note of design features that seem to work well. Ask the designers questions to learn more Part 1

Discuss with your group: How did your design work out? Are there any problems with your design? What are some design features you noticed that other groups used that seemed to work well? Would your design work on a larger scale? What changes would you need to make? End Part 1

Part Two: Bridge Across the Room ( teacher assigned groups of 6) Using the same supplies, can you build a bridge that will carry a car across the “bay” of our entire room? (the dragonfly table is an “island”, you can it them but not move it! Part 2
