Parking stirs strong emotions In our 2007 survey:- One quarter of London motorists have been involved in a row with another motorist over a parking space one in five admits to exchanging words with a traffic warden In our 2005 survey:- 30% of motorists would move house if they lost their parking space 24% would change their job 6% would consider selling their car

What’s the goal of enforcement? Compliance or cash? “Enforcement authorities should aim to increase compliance with parking restrictions through clear, well designed, legal and enforced parking controls. CPE provides a means by which an authority can effectively deliver wider transport strategies and objectives. Enforcement authorities should not view CPE in isolation or as a way of raising revenue.”

Public confidence is vital Consult on and communicate the policy. Deliver the policy fairly and transparently. Emphasise the benefits: safer roads, quicker journeys, thriving towns.
