Some Boring Facts  In western France, located on the Loire River  The 6 th largest city in France  Ranks 8 th population wise

More Boring Facts  In the Roman times, Nantes used to be called Portus Namnetus.  Nantes was the slave trade capital of France during the 18th century.  This trade caused Nantes to become the first port in France and a wealthy city.

Even More Boring Facts  Along with the airport, Nantes also has a high-speed TGV train line & important Auroroute network between the north and south-west of France.

Sunny with a chance of.. Tempests?  Rain is very common  Beware if it's sunny because brief but fierce tempests (violent windy storms) have been known to emerge out of the blue.  Always carry an umbrella or raincoat when going out.  Winters are usually mild.

Food!!  LU biscuits: the most famous are Petit-Beurre  Famous for the finest wine and seafood.  Also, this region of France is famous as the birthplace of crêpes.  Try the galettes de sarrasin(buckwheat crêpes)

Not-so Famous People  Nantes was home to the famous author Jules Verne.  He wrote mostly science- fiction novels  He is most famous for his novels Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea (1870), A Journey to the Center of the Earth (1864), and Around the World in Eighty Days (1873).  He died March 24, 1905 (aged 77) Amiens, France
