DYNAMIX Zoe Rolly Kevin Willams

Once students begin to fail in school, it negatively affects their self-esteem, which lowers their self- concept. According to M. Springs and W. Kristsonics, “…students with low self-concept display a negative out-look toward their situation in life and lack intrinsic motivation. These students need more encouragement in order to move past their struggles.”(2008)

North Carolina had a 3.52% drop-out rate in Davidson River School works with students who are on the verge of dropping out. Dynamix would like to partner with Davidson River School to involve students in activities that will increase their self-esteem giving them the tools to succeed.

Goals and Objectives The program will provide a safe and fun environment for personal development for youth at risk. The program will promote personal growth and improved social skills for participants through a short workshop.

Methods Dynamix will be a 90 minute initiative based program focusing on: »Problem Solving Skills »Teamwork »Confidence Building Dynamix will take place at Davidson River School All activities will be planned and lead by Zoe Rolly and Kevin Williams

Expected Benefits Problem solving skills Sense of accomplishment Effective communication Hands on approach

Risk Management Both facilitators have current American Red Cross CPR and Standard First Aid. A safety briefing will take place before each activity. General rules and guidelines will be discussed at the beginning of program. In the case of inclement weather, we will move the program indoors.

Credentials Over ten years of experience in leadership and group development Experience working with at-risk populations Strong background in facilitating team building and initiative activities

Evaluation A self-confidence assessment will be administered two days before and immediately following the program. After completion of the program an evaluation questionnaire will be given to participants.

In Conclusion Upon the completion of Dynamix Davidson River School will have the tools to evaluate whether or not similar programming will be beneficial to its students in the future. We expect that all participants will gain some insight that will help them succeed in school.
