Update: TF Outer Ring and Clevis Design TF Outer Ring – Implemented recommendations from P. Rogoff. Modified Bolted Joint. Modified weldment to reduce moments. Clevis Redesigned – Remove/Replace Existing Clevis. – Attach New Clevis to VV via welded studs. – Reduce Clevis offset from VV. Springs removed/replaced with solid rods.
Dimension Increased Joint configuration modified. VV-Clevis Attachment Plate New Clevis Studs Rods Spherical Rods Ends Joint Subassembly: Prefabricated, oversized, field fit and welded. Joint Subassembly
Distance to vessel surface 1.70 inch Distance to vessel surface tangent 1.43 inch Tabs angled to accommodate rod end connection. Clearance for stud weld.
Weldment Angles modified to reduce moments about the TF Outer Leg centerline.
Update: Upper Lid Design Upper Lid to SS Bolt Plate: – Friction joint carries shear. SS Bolt Plate to G10 Crown: – Shoulder bolts carry shear. Lid to Umbrella Attachment Design is ongoing.
Upper Lid Generous clearance hole through lid for bolts. Bolt Plate G10 Crown High Tolerance Fit for Shoulder Bolts Upper Lid/Bolt Plate Interface: Friction joint carries the shear. Bolt Plate/Crown Interface: Shoulder bolts carry shear. SS insert for shoulder bolt attachment. Submodeling with Ansys Workbench (AWB)
Update: VV midsection Stress Ansys Workbench Submodel created. – Scenario 79, No Disruption Load. – Various reinforcements applied. Able to reduce stress by 15 ksi. Believe < 2/3 yield is achievable. Pending final disruption load from T. Willard. Pending new global model/ submodel FEA with reinforcement to confirm acceptable stress.

Submodel for VV midsection: Scenario 79, No disruption load. Units: psi
Update: Umbrella Leg Reinforcements Various reinforcements analyzed. Achieved acceptable stress results. Weld distortion is a concern, must minimize it. Need to analyze configuration more suitable for installation. Weld testing to quantify weld distortion is planned.
Baseline reinforcement configuration from global model. Single sided reinforcement: 1 x 3 inch Units: psi
Design with Acceptable Stress. Double sided reinforcement at 1.5 inch thick. Units: psi
Design for plug welding. Needs to be analyzed.
