Dive Boat project, Resume Guy, for the boat project team

Boat project proposal at AG 2014 Independant proposal to buy a dive boat for the club Vote at AG form a boat project committee, to make a detailled study on the boat project for approval and final decision by the club committee. Provisional budget 15,000 Euros – Valued at 18,000 Swiss Francs in the budget Project accepted by the members present at the AG – Vote 46 For, 1 Against, 14 Absentions – 75% of votes in favour

Motivation for a club dive boat Organise our own boat dive outings independantly Gain access to remote dive sites – Lac Bourget « cote sauvage » – Lac Annecy and Lac Leman – Lac Vouglans « lost villages » Training for P2 school Surface security for delicate dives Propose something different from always diving at Hermance!

Project study and report to committee Boat committee – Guy, Mike, Arash, Gui, Vince, Denis Complex project with many details to investigate – Boat storage location – Transport by trailer, driver licence and weight limits – Boat and trailer registation – Possible launch sites at nearby lakes – Running costs, maintenance, insurance, fuel – Technical specification of the boat, motor, trailer – Layout and equipment for a boat suitable for diving activity Report to committee on the above details in March 2015 Survey by Mike on members who would use and help with running the boat (carried out in May 2015). – Very positive feedback from members

SUBSIDY from STAFF ASSOCIATION An extra 2,500 Swiss Francs granted by the CCC for the boat project in May 2015 – In addition to the usual 2k CHF subsidy to the club – Plus another 2.5K CHF granted for 2016 Brings total funds available to… – CHF 18K + 2.5K (+ 2.5K 2016) = CHF 23,000- – (increase in value of Swiss France in 2/2015 favourable for a purchase in Euros) Special subsidy can only be used for the boat project, unless otherwize negotiated with CCC

Second Hand Boat Market Good offer found and visited by Mike in June – Sale in Portsmouth UK – Avon 620 with Yamaha 115hp 4 stroke motor – GBP 11,000 (without trailer), well within budget Very good condition But config not ideal Split Committee Boat soon sold!

ANOTHER GOOD OFFER, but… Dive boat from Nicolas Seksik «CANTO GAI» – On sale in Marseille France (at end of dive season) – Mistral with Evinrude 115hp 2 stroke motor – Euro 15,000 (without trailer), within budget Very good condition Config « ready to dive » Committee in agreement But issue with motor – Swiss rules banning 2 stroke motors from 2016 

MARSEILLE OUTING, SEPTEMBER Follow-up of CANTO GAI offer Nicolas agrees to sell his boat without motor Need to find second hand 4 stroke motor and trailer – Stretching the budget, but still possible Proposal from Denis Regat to advance purchase of trailer with his money, and be refunded in 2016 Mixed opinions from committee  Denis buys trailer, parked at CERN kayak club! Investigate possibility to buy new motor tax-free through CERN purchasing (Pierre) – A little over budget for a 115hp motor

Capt. DENIS TO THE RESCUE! October 2015 Denis Regat announces his private purchase of Canto Gai!!! – Equipped with a new Mercury 115hp 4 stroke motor (purchased at Thonon) – Expected for 15th December 2015 – Available for CSC dive outings – Non-profit, but fees to cover running expenses – Committee proposes a « boat rental » budget to subsidize and encourage boat outings for members In view of Denis’ initiative and offer to the club, the boat committee decides not to pursue a club owned dive boat, at this time

Next steps… Denis is Captain of his own boat. Therefore he makes the rules! A new adventure, new experience and skills to acquire We should give Denis our full practical support! What becomes of the CHF extra subsidy? Investment to improve a storage space at CERN? Vehicle access and shelter Search for a mooring on the lake? Interesting 2016 dive season ahead. A new dynamic for the club!
