Ethnic and Social Hierarchy  Peninsulares dominated Latin America’s political and social life.  Creoles  owned the haciendas, ranches, and mines.  Population of mestizos grew  Mestizos and Mulattoes were tired of being under the Creoles  They rose up against the Spanish  Independence achieved  but Creoles dominated government
