Physical Abuse Physical abuse is the most visible form of abuse and may be defined as any act which results in a non- accidental trauma or physical injury.

 24% of all abuse cases are due to physical abuse.  Child abuse reports increased by 45% since 1987 according to the Nation Committee for the Prevention of Child Abuse.  In 1999, an estimated 1,401 child abuse and neglect related fatalities were confirmed by CPS agencies, nearly 4 every day.  In 1999, an estimated 1,401 child abuse and neglect related fatalities were confirmed by CPS agencies, nearly 4 every day.  91% of child physical abuses happened in places that are suppose to be safe for children.

Questions How did the son describe his relationship with his father when he was in the younger grades? What happened when he started high school? When he didn’t get played at a game what happened? How did his father react? Why do you think his father acted that way? In public, how did the dad behave, for example when the son missed the shot?

Why did the son stop playing basketball? Why didn’t he fight back? Who did he tell and what finally happened? Do you think he will play basketball in the future? Do you think his mother knew what was going on before he told her? Is there someone else he could have told?
