Promoting Digital Citizenship Middle School “Asking The Right Questions” by Penny Hite

Asking the right questions Instead of asking, “Where did you get this information?” One should ask, “Who owns this information?”

Sources Encyclopedias Textbooks Media Center sources Internet

Encyclopedia Students need to look at the article within the encyclopedia for authors name. They will be at the end of an article.

Textbooks/ Media Sources Most students know how to find the authors of a book or resource from their textbook or media center.

Internet This is the hardest for students to find, mainly because they don’t know how to find good sites for research-based information. Here is a good activity to help students learn how to evaluate web sites... can be done in small groups where they can discuss their Internet use and Web sites that they find useful for conducting research.

Web site example This is one web site found that gives information, author, year made, shows recent updates, contact information and is easy to navigate.
