Day 2: Sort; Self-Check; Partner Check  Sort your words  Self-Check  Touch and say each word in a column Does it sound right? Does it look right?  Partner Check  Use the same procedure as above  Coach or Quiet Celebration  If you finish…Do it again!

Day 3: Sort; Self-Check; Partner Check; Write the Sort  Sort your words  Self-Check  Touch and say each word in a column Does it sound right? Does it look right?  Partner Check  Use the same procedure as above  Coach or Quiet Celebration  Write your words under the correct heading  If time…Mix and repeat the sort

Day 4: Blind Sort  Partner up (Shoulder or Face Partners)  Use one set of cards, mix them up and arrange them face down in a pile  Partner A will read the word aloud to partner B, partner B will point to which heading the word will fall under  Partner A reads the word again and checks to see if it is in the correct column  Coach or quiet praise, Mix the cards and repeat

Blind Writing Sort  Partner up (Shoulder or Face Partners)  Use one set of cards, mix them up and arrange them face down in a pile  In your journal, write the headings on the top of your paper  Partner A will read a word aloud to partner B, partner B will write the word under the correct heading  Partner A shows the word and checks to see if it is spelled correctly and in the correct column; If it is incorrect, partner B erases and spells the word again under the correct column.  Coach or quiet praise, switch roles
