NVQs - Which of the following are myths? A cross (x) does not need to be recorded for any unmet ranges NO Comments must be recorded in logbooks and on treatment plans/client consultation forms NO Assessors can allow a few extra minutes on the service times NO The 2 week rules applies for E4 papers No Once 70% is achieved on an E3 it is a requirement to complete the outstanding questions Yes Once 70% is achieved in an E4 the outstanding questions can be orally questioned YES All oral questions must be recorded NO – but it is good practice to sample as part of internal verification

NVQs - Cross unit knowledge tests need to be completed before any other test is carried out NO Witness testimonies can only be used once the minimum amount of observations have been recorded by the Assessor YES E4’s can only be taken after a Practical observation has been completed NO A practical assessment can only be carried out once E3 knowledge questions have been covered NO If a contingency has not been covered by practical observation, it can be cross referenced to a GOLA question NO

VRQs - Which of the following are myths? Staff require A and V units for Hair & Beauty VRQs NO – however there are new Training, assessment and Quality Assurance (TAQA) qualifications There are set services times for VRQs NO - but this is a preparation for employment qualification Can you get insurance to work in the Hair & Beauty Industry with these qualifications YES Are these qualifications recognised by Industry YES Clients, peers, models and fake body parts can be used for all assessments Yes – but this is a preparation for employment qualification A pass can only be achieved if using a head block or a fake body part NO

VRQs - Does all the range listed in the Qualification handbook need to be evidenced NO – this can be used as a teaching syllabus – any range needed to be included in the practical observations are listed in the practical observation check list Do formative assessment have to be carried out in Beauty YES – there is a minimum requirement for each technical unit Can you fail a formative assessment NO Candidates are permitted to use the practical observation checklist to work from when completing practical tasks No All practical criteria must be met during a practical observations YES

VRQs - Knowledge tasks are graded NO – Only the practical observation is graded Research and report assignments are not closed book tests YES – these may be completed away from the centre, in the candidate’s own time and pace GOLA on-line tests are closed book tests YES GOLA on-line tests are graded pass or fail only YES Once a pass mark has been achieved with GOLA, the remaining questions need to be completed using oral questions NO If a candidate has registered onto the qualification including GOLA on line tests, there is the flexibility to do a combination of both on line tests or the knowledge tasks YES
