EQ: What causes change over time? Objective(s): 1) Understand the events that led to revolution 2) Evaluate which event was the biggest cause of the revolution Do Now:  Recall a time when you had a freedom taken away from you?  Write a 4-5 sentences explaining why it was taken away and how you reacted.

 Before French and Indian War  13 colonies left alone (Salutary Neglect) ◦ They paid little to no taxes ◦ And they smuggled to avoid British taxes  After French and Indian War  Britain in debt, taxed 13 Colonies Colonists resented this change ◦ Unfair ◦ No colonial representatives in Parliament ◦ “No Taxation without Representation”

 Colonists felt they were English citizens  As citizens they should be represented in English Parliament which makes the laws for the English Empire  Since the colonists did not have representatives in Parliament. Parliament did not have the authority to pass laws taxing them  The colonists DID NOT want to be represented in Parliament because they would be outnumbered by the Parliamentary representatives from England  It was a slogan that was easily remembered by everyone that meant. Hey! Our rights are being violated and that’s not right.
