6 th Grade Weekly Newsletter Volume 4 Issue 17 January 29 th, 2016 Science Next Week Science Weekly Review This week students presented their mummy projects to the class and answered questions about their project. They began learning about the five major world religions: Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Hinduism, and Buddhism. Students watched a short video clip regarding their differences and similarities with the Buddhist religion being the most different. We discussed the population and location of each of the five then used this information to find the percentage and create a pie chart depicting the religions. Information on creating graphs can be found at on the following: Important No School February 1 st, 2016 Half Day February 12 th, 2016 Social Studies - 2/3 Homework: students will complete their pie chart and indicate their work to find the percentages 2/4 Short quiz on Judaism, Islam, and Hinduism 2/5 Short review exercise and a quiz on Christianity and Buddhism - Middle School Student Council News The Middle School Student Council will be holding a dance on 2/12/16. In addition to the novel, students used a variety of strategies to determine the meaning of the following vocabulary words: inference, antagonist, personification, meter. ELA Next Week Next week students will continue Module #2a, chapters Students will consider questions about rules as they analyze the main character from the novel Bud, Not Buddy. Students will also analyze Steve Jobs’ commencement address to Stanford University. You can find Module #2a here: Useful Website For 6 th Grade Modules…..
