Why are trans fats not healthy? Trans fat is partially hydrogenated, which makes it have a longer shelf life, extends the shelf live of foods made with it and helps to preserve a food’s flavor. Although your body needs some fats to help break down vitamins and store nutrients, trans fats are not good agents for this process. Trans fats actually raise the bad cholesterol levels in your body and can increase your risk of heart attacks. Even though doughnuts taste delicious, that delicacy can turn out to be deadly.
