The Rise of Japan  Tokugawa – 250 years of peace  Shogun, daimyo, samurai kept stability Alternate attendance in Edo  Strict/detailed rules of behavior of society to keep order  Peace contributed to burst of economic growth Peasants grew more rice, rural enterprise  By 1750, urban, literate society
