VI. Controls for the movable BIDs R. Folch EN/STI - BID Workpackage Review - March Devices concerned – Scrapers (beam shaping and diagnostic) – MEBT dump and Beam stoppers (safety relevant) Work status Define the limit of scope of the workpackage Define the actuating systems and FE electronics Create the Xml files for BIS controls Define the controls and cabling schemes Define the size and location of the patch panels

Master Layout MA a-THA-V1.1 MEBT Dump Scraper horizontal Beam Stopper (4x) Scraper vertical

Control scheme for the scrapers Conection box 2 x Scraper Vertical (MR-0011-SCV-A) 2 x Scraper Horizontal (MR-008-SCH-A) < 10 m Electrical actuator (Brushless motor) DC supply & Encoder Main control rack WP limit BID BD Intermediate control rack m BD? R. Folch EN/STI - BID Workpackage Review - March 20124

Risk of radiation on scrapers drivers? R. Folch EN/STI - BID Workpackage Review - March CERN uses stepping motors with radiation hard resolvers, and has no data on the radiation sensitivity of the opto-encoders of the brushless motors CNAO uses brushless motors and does not consider radiation effects as a critical issue (no failure expected < 10Gy) MedAustron simulations for the ionizing dose rate < 0.1 Gy/y (scrapers losses not considered) MedAustron decision: – OK for brushless motors for scrapers – Design for easy replacing of the driving in case of failure
