“YOU AND I DO NOT SEE THINGS AS THEY ARE. WE SEE THINGS AS WE ARE.” - HERB COHEN Tuesday, September 17, 2013

 Root Word of the Day  hyper– over, above, beyond the ordinary  Word of the Day  Hyperthermia– especially high fever, (hyperpyrexia)  What other words do you know that are spelled with the root word “hyper” that have something to do with being over, above, or beyond the ordinary?

 Log onto your web page from the laptop at the front of the room  Introduce your presentation  Run your presentation  Conclude your presentation, so the audience knows you are finished.

 Use your notebook to take notes on each presentation  What was interesting information you did not know?  What common interests did you discover you had with the presenter based on his or her presentation?  What do you want to know more about?  At the end of class you will share your observations.

 Subject – the actor of the verb  Verb – a word of action or a word that shows state of being  The subject and the verb must agree in size and number.  Find a place on the first page of chapter one where the narrator breaks this rule.

 Pronoun – a word that takes the place of a noun  Antecedent – the word that the pronoun takes the place of  Agreement – the pronoun must agree with its antecedent in number, case, and gender

 The pronoun that is linked to the subject through the linking verb

 Pair off in groups within your table--- if you have an odd number of members, one group can be a trio: 1. Elect a scribe, a visual organizer, and a spokesperson 2. The visual organizer will create a web that organizes everything the group already knows about the Civil Rights Movement on a piece of blank white paper, as directed on page Read “Kids on the Bus: Overlooked Role of Teenagers in the Civil-Rights Era” (35-36) 4. The scribe will write down the answers to the prompts in Lesson 9 (Daybook pp34-36)

 Spokespeople will alert teacher when their group has completed all the tasks for Extension #1.  While your group waits, read the second part of the excerpt on pages  Work together to answer the questions on page scribe will submit your answer  You may have time to complete lesson 10 (37-38).  Again, students will work together on the question for page 38 but the scribe will write your agreed upon answer.  We will keep working until every spokesperson indicates that their group is willing to share about lesson 9.

EXTRA CREDIT PROMISED  To receive half credit for your missed answers on a quiz, you must do the following.  Show me, in your notebook, a page labeled “Quiz Corrections.” Below the heading, include the following: 1. The question you missed 2. The correct answer 3. The date of the notes where the answer was given to you in advance (you can find that be going to “Logan Logic 2014” on my webpage). 4. A sentence explaining how you chose the wrong answer and how you intend to prevent this error in the future.
