In Germany in 1900, the first dirigible was successfully flown. The Graf Zeppelin carried 20 passengers in dreamy luxury. In 1931, the Graf Zeppelin flew from Germany across the Atlantic and back. The Hindenburg was so big it needed a giant new hangar. The Hindenburg was going to be the perfect airship. The gas cells in the Hindenburg were filled with hydrogen.
