Legislative Branch By Lauren Belling

Main function of the Branch The main functions of the Legislative Branch are to enact laws and to exercise control over government action. There are 55 member of the Legislative Assembly and they are elected to represent the 55 constituencies of the province. These people form the arm of the working Branch.

When and where the meetings are held. They meet in the Capital building of Washington, D.C. There meetings begin on the 3 rd day of January every odd number year. The meetings (Or called Terms) last about two years, with a recess or break for the summer.

Number of representatives, and Qualifications to be a representative. We have 435 representatives. The Qualifications to be a representative is ▫You have to be 25 years or older. ▫Must be a citizen of the United States. ▫You must live in the state from which he or she is elected.

Terms for the house, and the presiding officer. The terms of the house is a 2 year term which means that who ever is a representative has to be reelected every 2 years. Nancy Pelosi is the presiding officer. She represents the 8 th district of California. She is a democratic.

Number of Senators, and Qualifications to become a senator. There are 100 senators in the U.S. The Qualification to be a senator is  You must be 30 years old.  A citizen of the United States for at least 9 years.  The person must live in the state that she or he represents.

Term for the senate and who the presiding officer. The number of terms for the senate is a six-year term, but every two year they reelect for a new senator.

The first presiding officer. The presiding officer is Joe Biden. His party is the democratic party. An interesting fact about Joe is that his Wife and his year-old daughter died in a car accident and his two other sons were critically injured. His position is the Vice president.

The second presiding officer. David Inouye is the other presiding officer. His party is the Democratic. An interesting fact about him is that his home town is Honolulu, Hawaii.

How the impeachment process works. The impeachment process is where they accuse an official of something wrongdoing or misuse of power. The process begins by accusing the official. Then the senate will act as the jury and tries any impeachment cases. When the House of Representatives accuses an official of a crime, the senate decides whether or not the official is guilty for it. The supreme court acts as the judge then. After that 2/3 of the senators present must find the official guilty in order to remove him or her for the office.

The process of the Bill. Idea 2/3 290 votes Law President- Obama Bill Committee in house Quorum vote- 1 over ½. 218 votes. Senate Committee Quorum- 51 Committe e joint 2/3 66votes veto

The four powers given to congress The first power is implied powers. Implied powers are given to the congress that are general. The second power is enumerated powers. Enumerated powers are specifically given to congress by the constitution. The third power is inherent powers. Inherent powers are unlisted powers that a government must have. The fourth power is the elastic cause. Elastic cause is where it allows congress to make all laws which shall be necessary and proper.

The limits of congress The first limit is that they cannot tax products. That means that they may not tax people for what they buy. Government money can only be spent by passing a law. The third one is that they cannot make treaties with countries. The fourth one is that they cannot coin their own money. The fifth one is that they cannot pass ex post facto laws.

My opinion I think that I would want to be apart of this branch because then I would get to make laws and got through all the processes and experience what it is like to have this job.

If I could change one of the laws. If I could change one of the laws I would change going to school some school rules. I would change this because there are so many rules that we have to follow at school.

Why it is important I think that this branch is important because if we didn’t have any laws then our world would be a mess. If our world would be a mess then people would be killing each other and doing this that are not appropriate to do.
