My Idea When I first started to think about making this project the most important aspect for me was the type of design I was going to go with. I had to make sure that the bike that I would be making stayed inside the specifications that we were given by our lecturer at the beginning of the module, this required paying particular attention to the proportion of the bike. My idea for the bike that I intend developing came from the tenth anniversary of the September 11th attack in New York. The brave people of the Fire Brigade that put their lives on the line when responding to a callout.
Design of Bike. Having Picked the theme for my bike I thought long and hard about what would be the best way for me to portray the bike. I toyed around with a few ideas in my head on the different types of designs that are out there and decided to finally go with the chopper style of bike.
Design of Bike. The Reason that I went with the chopper style of bike was because I have always had an interest in this style of bike and welcomed the opportunity to develop the concept. I also felt that in designing the bike in this style I would be able to incorporate the design features that I had in mind for the bike.
Design Features of Bike. The main design features that I want to incorporate into the bike are Design the fuel tank like the front of a fire engine. This I feel will bring the theme of the bike to the fore and make it stand out.
Design Features of Bike. The handle bars will be made out of stainless steel and curved in the shape of a semi ellipse with both handles made in the shape of hose that the fire fighters use. I want to incorporate as many design features as possible in relation to the fire brigade.
Design Features of Bike. If time permits I would also like to incorporate a box that would be fitted to the side of the bike that could hold equipment that the fire fighter may use.
Design Features of Bike. Am also hoping to incorporate in a small ladder that will be attached to the rear fender of the bike this I feel will add more authenticity to the bike and will give the bike some character.
Sketch of Frame. Am going to go with the basic frame the only changes that I am going to make to the frame is that I am going to bend the two front struts into meet the cross bar. The reason for this was so that the frame would stand out and look different to the other bikes.
Mock up of bike. The biggest concern that I had in the making of this bike is that we are being restricted to 500mm centre to centre between the wheels. With this in mind I decided to make up the frame out of timber so that I could get a better visual of the bike to see if the style of bike I wanted to make was possibel.
Mock up of bike. I am happy with how the mock up of the frame turned out it gave me confidence that the design would work. I still have concerns with keeping with in the constraints of the 500mm between centres of the wheels. I may have to reduce the size of the crossbar so that I can get the required angle on the front fork. This could cause problems when it comes to placing the engine of the bike in position. I may have to fabricate my own engine to suit the available space.
