Telling Time in Spanish

What time is it?

-¿Qué hora es?

If the time is near 1:00.. -start with Es la….. If it is at any other time -start with Son las….

If it is before 30 minutes past an hour, start with the first hour and use the word “y” to add minutes to the hour. e.g. – 2:20 = Son las dos y veinte

If it is after 30 minutes past an hour, start with the next hour and use the word “menos” to subtract minutes from the hour. e.g. – 1:40 = Son las dos menos veinte
