Developing Junior Players

Community Club Coaching Resource Progressive Long Term Player Development Framework that aims to support community club coaches (Under 12’s – 16’s) by acting as a coaching resource that coaches can implement in the community club environment Focused around player development / enjoyment and development of football, movement and mental skills

Identified Curriculum (Under 12’s – 16’s) Season’s worth of session planning Football, Mental & Movement Skills Development Session Structure Guidance Ideas around small sided games to develop specific skills

Game Based Activity & Drill Based Activity

Game Based ActivityDrill Constraints to encourage the outcome / skill Allow for the skill to be broken down Allows players to practice the skill in the context of the game Allows for the skills to be repeated Coaches & players must be clear on constraints (keep it simple) Allows for more individual and group feedback Progress wont always be evident (Games can look messy) Progress is more evident (comes easy and goes easy) Game based activity allows players to practice other skills Try to add some variety in the practice Games present opportunities to play and learn the game (make decisions) Time to coach! Coach is more of a facilitator
