Jesus Calls Us to Proclaim the Truth, in Spite of Rejection St. Peter Worship at Key to Life Saturday, January 30 th

Welcome to St. Peter! “So what am I here for?” That’s one of life’s big questions. The Scripture readings, prayers and hymns emphasize how God in great love has chosen us to work together to proclaim the truths of God’s Word to everyone in our community and world. That’s what Jesus did in today’s gospel lesson, and he even did so in spite of rejection.

Welcome to St. Peter! There are friendship registers at the end of each row. Please take a moment to give us your information so that we have a record of your time with us today. Thank you!

For Our Guests If you have questions, let us try to help. Speak with an usher, greeter, or the person next to you. If you’d like to learn more about St. Peter and its ministry, please talk to a pastor or member after the service.

Prayer before Worship Give me a caring heart, O Lord, to love and seek the lost. Overcome my fear, and grant me courage to proclaim the truth of your Word with those who don’t know or believe it. Make me strong in the face of rejection and faithful in my daily life so that all I say and do may glorify you. Amen.

Please be courteous and silence all pagers and cell phones. Thank you

Jesus Calls Us to Proclaim the Truth, in Spite of Rejection St. Peter Worship at Key to Life Saturday, January 30 th

O Jesus, King of Glory CW #94 Verses 1-5 Text: Martin Behm, (st. 1-2, 4-5) Evangelical Lutheran Hymnal, 1880 (st. 3) Setting: VALET WILL ICH DIR GEBEN Tune: Tune: Melchior Teschner, , alt.

Verse 1: O Jesus, King of glory, Both David's Lord and son! Your rule endures forever; In heaven is your throne. Help that in earth's dominions, From pole to farthest pole, Your reign may spread salvation To each benighted soul.

Verse 2: The eastern Magi, coming Their gifts of love to bring, Bear witness to your glory And worship you, their King. To you the star is pointing And the prophetic Word; So joyously we hail you; Our Savior and our Lord.

Verse 3: You are a mighty monarch, As by your Word is told, And yet you care but little For earthly goods or gold. You do not come displaying Your power and renown. You dwell in no high castle; You wear no jeweled crown.

Verse 4: Oh, look on me with pity Though I am weak and poor; Admit me to your kingdom To dwell there, blest and sure. I pray, Lord, guide and keep me Safe from my bitter foes, From sin and death and Satan; Free me from all my woes.

Verse 5 (Please Rise): Then let your Word within me Shine as the fairest star; Keep sin and all false doctrine Forever from me far. Help me confess you truly And with all Christendom Here hail you King and Savior And in the world to come.

Invocation Pastor: In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. All: Amen.

Confession of Sin Pastor: Beloved in the Lord; let us draw near with a true heart and confess our sins to God our Father, asking him in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to grant us forgiveness.

Confession of Sin All: Holy and merciful Father, I confess that I am by nature sinful and that I have disobeyed you in my thoughts, words, and actions. I have done what is evil and failed to do what is good. For this I deserve your punishment both now and in eternity.

Confession of Sin All: But I am truly sorry for my sins, and trusting in my Savior Jesus Christ, I pray; Lord, have mercy on me, a sinner.

(Pastor announces our forgiveness) All: Amen.

Pastor: In the peace of forgiveness, let us praise the Lord. Prayer and Praise

Rise, Shine, You People CW #556 Verses 1-4 Text: Ronald A. King, b Setting: WOJTKIEWIECZ Tune: Dale Wood,

Verse 1: Rise, shine, you people! Christ the Lord has entered Our human story; God in him is centered. He comes to us, by death and sin surrounded, With grace unbounded.

Verse 2: See how he sends the pow’rs of evil reeling; He brings us freedom, light and life and healing. All men and women, who by guilt are driven, Now are forgiven.

Verse 3: Come, celebrate, your banners high unfurling, Your songs and prayers against the darkness hurling. To all the world go out and tell the story Of Jesus’ glory.

Verse 4: Tell how the Father sent his Son to save us. Tell of the Son, who life and freedom gave us. Tell how the Spirit calls from ev’ry nation His new creation.

Grace Upon Grace: The Lord Chooses Us to Proclaim His Truth!

In thankfulness for our salvation, we support God’s work with our offerings.

Prayer of the Church Pastor: Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God and Mary’s son, in the fullness of time you came into our world to save us from sin and death: All: You ushered in the day of grace so long foretold.

Prayer of the Church Pastor: Beloved Son of the Father, revered by the Magi, baptized by John, you came preaching and teaching, healing and comforting, forgiving and encouraging:

Prayer of the Church All: You brought the light of life to those walking in darkness, and the joy of salvation to those doomed to death.

Prayer of the Church Pastor: Prince of Peace, shine like a beacon for us and the people of our world. Let the good news of salvation be heard in the remotest corners of the earth. Open our own lips to speak your name to those around us who still live without faith or hope:

Prayer of the Church All: Arouse us and our missionaries to flood the world with the light of your gospel.

Prayer of the Church Pastor: Lord of the Church, let your peace rule our hearts that we may use our gifts to serve you and each other in willing gratitude and joy. Watch over our loved ones near and far, that they may remember your love and rejoice in your salvation. Strengthen the faith of the sick and the disheartened. Give hope to those in despair and comfort those who mourn:

Prayer of the Church All: Be gracious to all and lead us to reflect your love in everything we say and do. Special prayers and intercessions may follow.

Prayer of the Church Pastor: Finally, bring us and all your believers to the heavenly home where we will stand in the full light of your glory and with all your saints and angels sing the everlasting song of triumph. All: Amen.

Lord’s Prayer All: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread.

Lord’s Prayer All: Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Lord’s Prayer All: For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen

The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you. The Lord look on you with favor and give you peace. All: Amen The Blessing
