Access Review

Table: Make your table in design view – like we’ve done for all databases in class.

Table: Input your data in datasheet view.

“Index or primary key cannot contain a Null value.” Input data in this cell in order to avoid this message box.

Use a Wizard to make all other objects… Query Form Report …then make changes if needed in design view.

SORTING & SEARCHING

Adjust your query in the “Criteria” line & add go the “or” line if you need to add multi-level criteria (more than one thing).

Searching in our Database: Using “Find” (control F) to look for data. Using a Wildcard Search to find data

Use Control F: make sure you look in the whole table for any part of the field. Find Bella!

Wildcard Search… This is used if you need to make a part of the search variable (changeable). Example: All (different) addresses on the (same) street. In address query criteria space: Ex: “* Main Street” Will bring up all addressed on ? Main Street. Shift 8 =

This * search in query criteria: Produces this result in the datasheet view of this query! Use the “or” line for more than one criterion.

Sorting… In design view in your query… In your table from the heading…

Multi-level query: Example

Put an asterisk * for all variables! To get: 394 Main Street, Apt. 7 To get: PO Box 984

Review Summary: “Know how to…” 1.Make a table & input data. 2.Set up tables in design view. 3.Set up queries, & forms with a wizard. 4.Sort queries in design view. 5.Use “Control F” to find a name. 6.Use a Wildcard search (*) to find info. 7.Spell-check and proof your work.

Finally… Be sure to spell check everything again. Make sure all headings and proper nouns (the names of people, places, things) have all first letters capitalized. Spelling and proofing count on the competency (and good habits in general). Good luck!
