Objectives: - Outcomes: - Differentiated learning : - Literacy: -SMSC: - Lesson Overview Writing Frames Dictionaries VCOP Thesaurus moral- consideration of the ethics surrounding covert observation. A Grade – Demonstrate detailed evaluation within the 20 mark exam question. B Grade – Provide detailed explanations as to the reasons for choosing method type within scenario ‘s activity. C Grade – Identify different examples for each observation type. Level of difficulty of key words used in activity Differentiated worksheets 1. know the difference between covert and overt observation 2. To know when it is appropriate to use participant and non-participant observation 3. To know the strengths & limitations of observation methods

Observation Overt – The group you are observing know why you are there and what you are doing Covert – You are ‘undercover’ and the group are not aware of the fact that you are observing them Participant – you (the researcher) are actively involved in the group’s activities as well as observing the group’s behaviour. Non-Participant – you (the researcher) watch and record what is happening but you are not involved in the group’s activities. 5 mins Teams For each of the observation types give your own example For each type provide examples and explain why you would use it as a method. For each type provide examples and explain strengths and limitations you may pose.

Relevant studies All groups must be able to explain their study Black and Blue team MUST consider evaluation of the study. Know your study you will need to feedback!!!!

+/- of Observation... EXTENSION POINTS KEY WORD: Triangulation – checking the accuracy of data collected through one method (e.g. a questionnaire) by comparing it with data collected by using another method (e.g. observation) 13. It produces qualitative data that is a rich source of detailed information about all aspects of a group’s activity. It is the method of data collection favoured in ethnographic studies KEY WORD: Ethnography – looking at the whole way of life of a group, usually by using a variety of methods of data collection (e.g. observation & questionnaires)
