It’s a fun way to study with friends. You can challenge yourself. It’s a great way to assess your ability and progress over the years. It’s excellent practice for college placement tests and the AP test. Achieving a National or Chapter ranking score looks great on a college application. It’s good PR for your school, your school’s foreign language department, and your French teacher. You can earn prizes, including medals, certificates, and Barnes & Noble gift cards. You can develop your competitive spirit by testing with over 100,000 other students nationally.

World Language and College Preparation Taking a world language through the senior year has some very special benefits! At the University of Missouri-Columbia, students who have had 4 years of high school world language are automatically exempt from the 13 hour language requirement by the College of Arts and Sciences. These same principles of exemption or credit apply at many colleges and universities. As such, planning and academic commitment to World Language study in high school can provide handsome rewards!!

How does high school study of a World Language impact college bound student? Level One: –Unfortunately, students who only complete one level may be ineligible for admittance at MU and many other universities/colleges. Level Two: –Completion of Level 2 language course in high school is required for admission at MU and many other universities/colleges. –Student may be required to take additional coursework in order to meet a degree requirement. –Student will begin language study at the University in the beginning level OR may take a language placement test to determine the appropriate course.

Level Three: –Student meets the admission requirement, but may be required to take additional coursework in order to meet a degree requirement. –Student will take a placement test to determine the appropriate course. –Upon successful completion of a course, the student will receive credit for all levels skipped. (example: a student that tests into level 3 at MU will receive credit for levels 1 & 2 upon passing the level 3 course) There is no fee for these credits. Levels 1 and 2 are each five hour courses, so this could mean 10 hours of free college credit. Level Four: –Many degree language requirements will have been met— no additional study required. –Students choosing to take a language class in college can potentially earn up to 13 credit hours, free of charge, upon successful completion of the college course. Level 4 and AP prepare you to do this.
