Row 1, Col 1 What was the state of Georgia? The Cherokee Indians sued this government body for the right to stay on their land.

1,2 What was the corrupt bargain? This is the name used by Jackson supporters to describe the deal between Adams and Clay that gave Adams the presidency in 1824.

1,3 What were western states? Governments in this region of the country felt cheap land prices were the best way for the government to help the economy of their states grow.

1,4 What was the South? This region of the country were against tariffs because they made items they had to buy more expensive.

2,1 What was The Trail of Tears? This is the name given to the forced move of the Cherokee to Indian Territory.

2,2 What were internal improvements? This allowed for cheaper trade between the Northeast and western states.

2,3 What is the House of Representatives? Because Andrew Jackson did not win a majority in the Electoral College the selection of the President in 1824 was decided in this body.

2,4 What was the spoils system? This was the name given to Jackson’s policy of giving government jobs to people who supported him.

3,2 Who were the Cherokee? The passage of the Indian Removal Act, President Jackson refusing to carry out a Supreme Court ruling, and the discovery of gold on their land, all contributed to the removal of these people from their homeland in Georgia.
