John

One of the original 12 Apostles A special witness to the acts and teachings of Jesus. His brother, James, and him were sons of Zebedee Like Peter, he was a fisherman when Jesus called him.

John He and James were two of the apostles Jesus appointed “To take the keys of Presidency.” Acting first presidency of the church in their day. Was present at the raising of Jairus‘s daughter. Was present at the Transfiguration. He was present at Gethsemane.

John The Book of Mormon and the Doctrine and Covenants refer to John’s role as a revelator and a restorer of the priesthood in the latter days. The Book of Mormon

John *The gospel of John is the account for the Saints. *It is pre-eminently the gospel for the Church.

John * Background during John’s time: Few agree to when the account was written. Perhaps even as early as A.D. 35 to 45. Some believe John wrote his Gospel at Ephesus some time after the destruction of Jerusalem. *As a writer: He focuses on those who understand the scriptures and their symbolism and who are concerned with spiritual and eternal things.

Uniqueness of Gospel: Focuses on Jesus’ ministry around Judea. Emphasizes Jesus as the Son of God. Accents truths for Church members. Emphasizes the spiritual message of events. More often includes long discourses of Jesus.

In the Book of John: *Begins testimony on the premortal Christ as the “Word of God”. *Summarizes many of the themes developed in the rest of the book. *The book testifies of Jesus Christ’s divinity and His central role in our Heavenly Father’s plan. Book Of John

John’s Testimony: Believe that Jesus Christ, the Son of God; and believe that ye might have life through his name. (John 20:31)

John 1:1-17 D&C 93:1-22 Jesus Christ and His gospel are the light and life of the world John 1:1-4 JST John 1:1-4 Jesus Christ is the Lamb of God offered as a sacrifice for the sins of the world.
