The period from about when Europeans sought routes to Asia and explored new areas.

Italian explorer, who searched for the Far East but instead found the Americas which he claimed for Spain. Rediscovered the New World.

A loose government unit where states (or tribes) keep most of their power with a few key powers left to the central government. The Iroquois were an example.

The total way of life of a group of people including art, music, religion, traditions, etc.

The discovery and investigation of previously unknown areas.

One who investigates or explores a geographical area.

The original inhabitants of an area. Native Americans were the indigenous people in the Americas.

Confederation of the Seneca, Cayuga, Oneida, Mohawk and the Onondaga. Later the Tuscarora joined. It was founded by Hiawatha and Deganawida. It existed in present day New York State.
