Parallel lines have special properties. First, we need to understand how to designate lines parallel. Make a note of the following notation: Point: Ray: Perpendicular: Segment:Plane: Line:Parallel:

We have all of the same angle pairs whether the lines are parallel or not. But When they are parallel, then the angles have certain properties that can help us.

Same-side interior angles are supplementary. Corresponding angles are congruent. Alternate interior angles are congruentAlternate exterior angles are congruent
