MRS. ROMERO’S KINDERGARTEN CLASS Welcome to Open House

Tardies and Absences Students are tardy if they are not in the class at 8:20 when the bell rings. Students are absent if they are not in their class at 9:45 when the bell rings. Please send a note the day your student comes back from an absence.

Dress code No tank tops, spaghetti straps, crop tops or muscle shirts Shorts must be at mid-thigh No flip flops No head coverings (bandannas, scarves, hats) Please refrain from sandals on PE days.

Grading Period Klein elementary schools have a 9 week grading period. All academic grades are rated E+, E, S+, S, N, and U. Behavior grades are E, S, N, or U. Progress reports will go home in the middle of the 9 weeks,– please sign and return. Please keep the report cards at home and sign and return the cover/sleeve. Beginning, middle and end of year reading assessments DRA – (reading level evaluation) January/May

Discipline Nurtured Heart Approach Reset system – please check daily folders  No numbers or note …a very good day!  If your child had several resets during the course of the day there will be a note or numbers to let you know areas of concern If your child physically harms another child (push, hit, pinch, shove, etc) our policy is to write the child up and you will be contacted by Mrs. Trammell. This year we are using the Nurtured Heart Approach. There will be a couple of information sessions for parents who are interested in learning more about this. 10/29/14 6:00-7:30 11/5/14 6:00-7:30

PRIDE and POWER A program to increase student responsibility and build character. We will find out what team we are on at the Pep- Rally Friday! On Thursdays team Power wears black and team Pride wears green. Team points are earned by good cafeteria behavior, PE/Music behavior, attendance, tardies, early dismissals, and homework turned in on time.

Daily Folder The Red Wolf folder comes home with your child every day and needs to be initialed and returned daily. Folder may have a note or number(s) indicating a specific behavior that needs to be addressed. Take out any work and other handouts daily.

Homework Purple Reading Folders will start soon and will normally come home on Mondays also and should be returned on Fridays. These are to be read by your child to you with your guidance. Please log it only ONCE. Practice sight words. A list will be coming home soon. Please make flash cards using index cards.

Homework, continued Please read with your child every night. Record book titles on Library reading log. Math practice pages will come home periodically in red Wolf folder and it is up to you if you want to complete them or not.

Schedule Music- Monday and Tuesday 12:45-1:30 P.E.- Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday at 12:45 Art-Wednesday at 12:00 Library – Thursday Lunch 10:45-11:15

Parent Help Be sure your child is rested and has eaten a good breakfast each day. Send folders back signed and papers taken out. Label everything –backpacks, lunchboxes, sweaters, etc. Help your child learn to be independent (opening own packaged food, dressing, tying shoes, PIN numbers, etc.)

PTO Please join PTO. Membership supports class parties and you membership entitles you to a student directory. Membership drive is in full swing and if our class wins for the grade level, we get a pj day and bragging rights. All PTO paperwork will be sent home on bright yellow paper. FIRST EVENT!! P.S. Scholastic book orders will be sent home once a month unless our library is having a Book Fair. Watch for more information on this in the next couple of days. Book orders are completely optional. If there is a change in the way your child is going home you must send a note or call the front office, otherwise I have to send them off the normal way.
