The Vikings The Vikings were skilled _______________. Their homeland was Scandinavia in Northern Europe. They had sleek wooden ___________________, powered by only by sail and oars, they sailed as far east as Asia, as for south as North Africa, and as far west as North America.

Leif Ericcson’s father known as _____________sailed to island of Iceland. Eric was thrown off this island and went to _________________. Despite its name it is a very cold land.

Leif Ericsson Leif Ericcson was interested in rumors of a land still farther west. In _________________, he sailed west to see if these rumors were true. When he and his crew set foot upon______________________, they were probably the first Europeans to do so.

These Vikings landed on what is now Newfoundland on the east coast of Canada. These Vikings had no written language so they created long spoken tales called ________________, repeated from one generation to the next.
