Work Programme Objective1 Targets Impact Funding schemes Objective N Targets Impact Funding schemes Challenge 1 Objective1 Targets Impact Funding schemes Objective N Targets Impact Funding schemes Objective N Targets Impact Funding schemes Objective1 Targets Impact Funding schemes..… Challenge 7Challenge 2 …. ICT Work Programme Structure

What is new in FP7?  Duration: 7 years (except EURATOM: 5 years)  Budget: significant increase  New structure: 4 specific programs + EURATOM and JRC  European Research Council, Joint Technology Initiatives etc.  Simplification in:  Requirements to the consortium and the proposers  Cost models  Proposer documentation  Evaluation criteria  Integration of the international dimension into all SP

International Cooperation in Cooperation SP  All themes open to third countries  International Cooperation Partner Countries (ICPC):  Countries neighbouring the EU  Developing countries (Africa, Asia, Latin America)  Emerging economies (China, India, Brazil, Russia, South Africa) Would be generally funded  Industrialised countries (USA, Canada, Japan, Australia…) Would be funded only exceptionally  Targeted calls/Specific International Cooperation Actions (SICA)

Other differences to FP 6  Changes in the terminology “Contract” becomes “Grant Agreement” “Contractor” becomes “Beneficiary” “Instruments” become “Funding Schemes” “Audit certificate” becomes “Certificate on Financial Statement” INCO becomes ICPC  Contractual changes The “collective financial responsibility” (no bank guarantees) has been removed to lower the barriers to SME participation. Guarantee Fund established by the Commission.

What should be avoided?  Pure fundamental research  Pure product development and market take-up  Pure software development with no research  Pure methodology with no research and innovation on technology and/or pilot cases  Consultancy activities, without any real/proven industrial participation  “Local” applications with no added value at European level

Forthcoming events  Information Day on Network and Service Infrastructures – 26 February, Brussels  Information Day on Embedded Systems Design and Computing Systems – 7 March, Brussels  2nd Vienna International Conference on Micro- and Nanotechnology - from March 14 to 16
