What is the Governor’s Teacher Network? A talented group of 450 outstanding teachers were selected from 1400 applicants for Teachers identify instructional needs, create innovative digital instructional resources and design professional development to support key Race to the Top initiatives in Home Base. Network Teachers continue their current educator roles in their schools and districts and serve in one of two pathways.

Two Pathways Pathway One: Professional Development after Research Action Project Pathway Two: Creation of Lesson/Unit Plans as a Resource

What is the Governor’s Teacher Network? Pathway 1 Teachers: Professional Development I dentify problems of practice around instructional needs and conduct action research projects in their schools. I nvestigate and analyze the effectiveness of strategies and practices on student learning. Create professional development sessions and materials to be posted in Schoolnet and the Professional Development S ystem in Home Base.

My Action Research Discovering Syllable Types: What are They and Why Do We Need to Teach Them?

My Area of Focus The purpose of this study is to deepen students’ reading comprehension through the recognition of the six syllable types and strategies to decode single syllable and multisyllabic words.

This study seeks to introduce the six syllable types to fourth grade students who are below state reading proficiency standards. The students will learn to decode single syllables and multisyllabic words, which should increase their reading comprehension.
