Interest Approach What is a plan? What do you have to plan in your life? Why is planning so important?

How do I plan my SAE Program? All SAE programs should be carefully planned with educational experiences relating to classroom instruction.

Steps in planning an SAE program are: Identify career interests in agriculture. Review the job responsibilities of career interest areas. Complete the SAE program resource inventory. Identify any SAE programs of interest

Steps in planning an SAE program are: Determine what experiences will be completed in each phase of the SAE program. Develop a long range plan for the SAE program. Develop the first year (annual) plan. Replan on a regular basis.

Guidelines for planning an SAE Program. Plan for year-round experiences. Include ownership and /or placement projects either at home, school, or in the community. Identify a number of improvement projects and supplementary skills for the year.

Guidelines for planning an SAE Program. Develop a budget. Plan ownership projects with some form of profit. Explore different locations to gain desired experiences. Discuss the SAE program with parents/guardians.

Guidelines for planning an SAE Program. Plan the scope of the program to earn enough profit in order to qualify for advanced FFA Degrees. Provide for a variety of activities and experiences. Increase the SAE scope annually. Choose SAE program experiences that relate to career interest areas.

What is an annual SAE Program plan? An annual SAE program plan consists of: –calendar, –description of projects, –budget, –improvement projects, –supplementary skills

Parts of an annual SAE program plan include the following items: Use the calendar year for the program. A tentative budget with income and receipts. Maintain AET records.

Ownership projects description would include the following items Size/Scope Location Nature of Business Partners involved Marketing methods Facilities needed Months involved in the SAE

Placement projects description would include the following items: Location Beginning and ending dates Project pay schedule

Improvement Projects description include the following items: Specific activities involved Hours of labor List of estimated costs

Improvement Projects Activities that improve the appearance, convenience, efficiency, safety, or value of a home, farm, ranch, agribusiness, or other agriculture facility. Students usually will not receive a wage or profit from the activity. The student benefits by learning new skills. Documented hours count towards FFA degrees.

Supplementary skills Individual jobs that provide hands on experience and agricultural skill development. They are not directly related to the students’ SAE project or improvement project. Still count as a part of the SAE and FFA experience!

What is the purpose of a training plan or training agreement? The student, teacher, employer, and parent develop the training plan and/or agreement. A training plan is a form that lists the experiences to be gained in an SAE program.

What is the purpose of a training plan or training agreement? It lists the dates each item is to be accomplished. The training plan indicates beginning and end of training The plan will give the name of the training station - where the SAE will be carried out. Training plans are used most often with a placement and research and experimentation SAE program.

What is the purpose of a training plan or training agreement? A training agreement is a form that makes the SAE program official. –It describes the conditions of the SAE program. –It shows the rate of pay. –The training agreement explains expectations of all parties involved. –Signatures from the student, teacher, parent/guardian are required.

Summary Identify the steps in planning an SAE Program. Identify the parts of an annual SAE program plan. Discuss the function of a training plan and / or agreement in an SAE program.

The End! SAE = $$$$
