CHAPTER 8 SHARING THE ROAD WITH OTHERS

PEDESTRIANS A MOTORIST MUST STOP AND REMAIN STOPPED FOR A PEDESTRIAN WHO IS CROSSING AT A CROSSWALK UNTIL THE PEDESTRIAN COMPLETES HIS/HER CROSSING

TRUCKS, TRACTOR-TRAILERS AND BUSES IMPORTANT TO REMEMBER THAT THERE ARE SEVERAL BLIND SPOTS IN ADDITION, DURING ADVERSE WEATHER CONDITIONS, A TRUCK CAN TAKE AS MUCH AS 25% LONGER TO STOP THAN USUAL

NO ZONE PRINCIPLE DO NOT MOVE CLOSE TO A TRUCK THE POTENTIAL FOR A COLLISION IS INCREASED FOR MOTORISTS DRIVING IN A NO-ZONE IF THE DRIVER OF A LARGE TRUCK OR BUS CANNOT SEE YOU IN HIS MIRROR – YOU ARE IN A BLIND SPOT

NO ZONES 2:00

TRUCKS AND TURNING GIVE MORE ROADWAY TO A TRUCK DRIVER NEGOTIATING A WIDE TURN TO THE RIGHT OR LEFT DO NOT PASS A TRUCK ON THE RIGHT BEAR RIGHT WHEN A LARGE VEHICLE IS APPROACHING IN THE OPPOSITE LANE. WIND TURBULENCE WILL BE REDUCED

TRUCKS ON A HILL BE SURE TO LEAVE AMPLE SPACE WHEN FACING UPHILL BECAUSE TRUCKS MAY ROLL BACKWARD SLIGHTLY WHEN STARTING UP

MOTORCYCLES (CHAPTER 10) NEVER FOLLOW MOTORCYCLES TOO CLOSELY A MOTORIST’S FAILURE TO DETECT AND RECOGNIZE MOTORCYCLES IN TRAFFIC IS THE MOST COMMON CAUSE OF COLLISIONS
