(Tadeáš Holub)

John Grisham He is an American author. He was born in 1955 in Arkansas. He studied the law at Missisippi State University. He was inspired by John Steinbeck. His novels are interested in criminal and law issues. He wrote many succesful books (e.g. A Time to Kill, The Firm, The Chamber).

Plot The story was situated in a small American town. The story began with a rape of a ten - year - old black girl by two drank white - skin ned men. They were arrested and standed to trial. But the father of the girl killed both of them and standed to trial instead of them. He was prosecuted by Jake Brigance. There was a huge problem because of Kuklux klan which is against black people. The d efendant was finally found innocent by reason of insanity.

The language of the book was on understandable level for me. The plot was quite complicated, especially there were many characters whose names I c ouldn ´t remeber in the beginning. I was interested in this topic because I like books about criminal issues. A huge mistake was that from the beginning it was clear that the defendant w ould ť be sentenced.

Vocabulary insanity- šílenství, mentální nemoc deputy- zástupce county- kraj, samosprávné území witness- svěděk u soudu objection- námitka drink as fish- pít hodně alkohol

Quotation Speech of the defendant prosecutor wh o won the trail: “ Ladies and gentlem e n, she needs him now, as much as s he needed him then. Please don´t take him away. She’s waiting on the front row for her daddy. Let him go home to his family”
